Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and lasts until sundown on Holy Saturday, the Eve of Easter. Lent is observed in remembrance of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness being tempted by Satan. During these 40 days Jesus was more than likely doing self-examination as he prepared to start His teachings. We know that He was tempted multiple times and Satan was rebuked by Jesus each time.  We know that we are often tempted by sin in everyday life and we struggle to resist sin, so we observe Lent as a time of repentance, fasting, self-examination and reflection in preparation for the coming of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
