Music Ministry

From Music Director- Suzanne Hatcher

Oratorio Choir is resuming rehearsals on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 to prepare for our Good Friday Tenebrae service. We rehearse every Wednesday from 7:30-8:30 p.m.. No experience is required — just a willingness to sing and fellowship with a great group of people.

Calling all poets & writers! Have you ever wondered if your words could be sung? This spring we will be calling for texts and will select one (or more) to be set to music and sung in worship. Keep an eye out for the “official” announcement!

Want to improve your voice? Mark your calendars! This summer on Wednesday evenings Suzanne will teach a laid-back class on how to improve your voice and read basic music. Singers of all levels are welcome! Youth should at least be of middle school age to have the best experience. More details to come.

__________________________________________________________

Chancel Choir: This is the main Sunday morning choir. We rehearse Wednesday evenings, 6:30-7:30, and most every Sunday from Labor Day through Pentecost. Singers of all experience levels (age high school and older) are invited to join us for fun, fellowship, and music-making!

Oratorio Choir: Don't want to commit to every
Sunday? Come sing in the Oratorio Choir! This group prepares the special music for Christmas and Holy Week/Easter. Just like the Chancel Choir, this group welcomes singers of all
abilities and ages- high school and older.

Flute Choir: New this fall! We're looking to start a Flute Choir (fancy name still TBD). Do you play the flute? Even if it has been several years, dust off your instrument and come join us. Let Suzanne know you are interested and we will find a rehearsal time that suits all members.

Instrumental Specials: Do you play an instrument? We would absolutely love to hear you! If you don't have a repertoire of solos, Suzanne is happy to help you find something and work with you. We can also pair you up for duets or trios, or use you as an accent on a choir anthem if being out there alone is a little too intimidating.

Vocal Solos and Small Groups: If you love to sing but cannot join one of the choirs, let us know and we will find an opportunity for you to shine! We can even help you select music that best suits you and allows you to share your praise and musical gifts.

For information on any of these opportunities, or ones that may have been missed, contact Suzanne at Suzanne.hatcher@monticello-umc.org.

Hymn Writing Opportunity
Are you someone who has a gift for the written word and poetry? Have you ever considered having your words turned into a hymn or other worship song? Send your writings to Suzanne, and she will look at turning them into something musical that can be shared with the congregation!

Visual Artists & Creative Types: We Need You!
If you have an eye for design and/or love to decorate, we need you to join the revamped Worship Committee. We will be discussing everything from seasonal décor to ways to enhance our worship experiences visually. Contact Suzanne Hatcher at
suzanne.hatcher@monticello-umc.org
or Pastor Hyemi at hyemi.jones@monticello-umc.org for more information!
