boy scouts

Monticello UMC has long supported boys and young men through the Scouting Ministries. The Scouting Ministry helps boys "be prepared" for the future. Currently, Monticello is pleased to serve Troop 351, the Purple Chickens. "I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country." - from the Boy Scout oath.

Troop 351 was founded in 1969 by Herb Wood, an Eagle Scout and Korean War veteran. Boys aged 11 through 17 can join and participate in monthly camp outs, summer residence camps, high adventure treks, and many other Scouting activities and events throughout the year. Boy Scouts learn outdoor and Scouting crafts, perform service projects, and develop leadership experience. They learn self-reliance, citizenship, resourcefulness, cheerfulness, courage, courtesy, reverence, and other life skills.
